Sarnoff Corp., part of SRI International, has introduced TerraScout, a mobile surveillance system for commercial or military use. TerraScout has a 30-foot telescoping mast equipped with day and night cameras capable of 360-degree rotation. The cameras have a resolution of 12 pixels per person and have range of 500 meters. The system can used at speeds up to 20 mph, be controlled remotely and preprogrammed for surveillance routines. The system can be upgraded to include additional cameras and sensors. “It has the highest resolution for stabilized live video available for any mobile surveillance system operating at its distance,” says Mark Clifton, acting president and CEO of Sarnoff. “Plus, because it’s much more affordable than traditional mobile security and crowd control solutions, police and security at sporting events, universities, power plants, sensitive installations, and other users that may have been priced out in the past can now take advantage of this incredible technology.” Sarnoff, which is teamed with another company for an upcoming Mobile Surveillance Capability procurement by Customs and Border Protection, is not offering TerraScout for that effort.
