Israel’s Rotem is currently planning and articulating an RFI for the establishment of the solar power station in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Nevatim base in the Negev desert.
“Rotem Industries will provide the Ministry of Defense (MoD) with every assistance needed to establish the solar power station and this will be based on the vast knowledge that has been accumulated over many years in the solar field,” Dan Peer, CEO Rotem Industries, said. “This initiative is an addition to the establishment of the Renewable Energy Center that is unique and possesses huge technological and scientific abilities.”
It will be a 50 MW solar power station, the first of its kind in Israeli military bases.
Rotem said the MoD unit responsible for IDF camps in the Negev will soon publish the tender for the reliable and cost effective power station that will ensure regular power supply to the base, even in case of severe failures of the state electric grid.
The company said it was contracted to provide the technological and economical aspects of the solar part of the project due to its expertise and vast experience accumulated in the Rotem Innovation Center for Renewable Energy Technologies, particularly in the field of solar thermal energy.
Rotem will perform analysis of field data, environmental conditions and meteorological data and will examine the technological alternatives, providing recommendation of technological solutions that meet the needs of the MoD.
In addition, Rotem will perform the Economic Comparative Testing to the conventional power station and will examine the economic feasibility. Based on this analysis the relevant chapters will be prepared for the tender aimed to select the constructor of the station.
