Rolls-Royce said the Army recently awarded it a contract worth potentially $183 million to service the company’s M250 engines.

The 4.5-year contract, to service 500 M250 engines on more than 300 aircraft, begins this month. Rolls-Royce spokesman George McLaren said yesterday the initial contract covers the first six months and the Army has four follow-on option years, making the contract worth potentially $183 million.

McLaren said the contract includes Rolls-Royce field service representatives at bases and on deployment, engineering support, program management, parts, repairs and overhauls.

McLaren said the M250 engine is on over 100 platforms, including the GippsAero GA10, a 10-seat, single-engine utility aircraft developed by Gippsland Aeronautics of Australia. He said the M250 also powers the Grob G120TP, a new two-seat trainer aircraft developed by Grob Aircraft of Germany, as well as Bell Helicopter’s OH-58D Kiowa Warrior scout helicopters. Bell Helicopter is a division of Textron [TXT].

Rolls-Royce has supported the Kiowa Warrior fleet for 13 years, including placing field service representatives on more than 20 in-theater deployments to support the Army, the company said in a statement. Kiowa Warriors have completed more than two million flight hours, including more than 750,000 hours in combat, the company said.

The M250 is also on Northrop Grumman’s [NOC] MQ-8 Fire Scout helicopter and MD Helicopters’ MH-6 Little Bird and MD500. It is also on the Bell 206 and Bell 407.
