Retiring Workforce Fuels Demand for Aviation Maintenance Technicians at National Aviation Academy Career Fair

According to the Aviation Technician Education Council’s (ATEC) 2018 Pipeline Report, a staggering 30% of the airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic workforce is at or near retirement age. Hiring companies recently met with students and alumni at a National Aviation Academy (NAA) Career Fair to prepare for imminent shortages as veteran mechanics exit the workforce.

CLEARWATER, Fla., Feb. 11, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Many factors, including an aging aviation maintenance workforce and shortage of trained airframe and powerplant (A&P) technicians, have sparked interest in National Aviation Academy’s (NAA) Career Fairs. Employers are feeling the challenges that come with aviation maintenance professionals departing longtime positions and make it abundantly clear that the demand in the industry is real.

To connect students and alumni with industry-leading employers, NAA’s most recent Career Fair took place on January 23, 2020, at their Tampa Bay campus. Over forty companies were in attendance to meet candidates, conduct interviews, and make employment offers. Industry leaders such as Piedmont, Endeavor Air, General Electric (GE) Aviation, Gulfstream, and Delta TechOps were onsite, seeking qualified candidates. NAA continues to grow relationships with employers, and maintenance companies alike, to facilitate the placement of trained professionals into the aviation maintenance field.

The Aviation Technician Education Council’s (ATEC) 2018 Pipeline Report details the current state of A&P mechanic certificate holders, the aviation maintenance technician schools that prepare the majority of individuals for careers in aviation maintenance, and the companies that employ maintenance professionals. It shows that employers are seeking ways to excite the next generation of mechanics, who are needed to fill positions. Career growth opportunities and benefits are some of the things that today’s aviation employers are using to pique future mechanics’ interest.

Pamela Van Sant, National Aviation Academy’s President/COO, stated, “Veteran aviation maintenance technicians are retiring at an unprecedented rate. With so many amazing aviation maintenance opportunities available, it’s no wonder that companies are taking notice of highly-trained, newly-certified A&P technicians. We offer quality training to maintain the world’s air fleet.”

One of NAA’s primary objectives is to mold students into professional aviation mechanics. These skilled technicians are responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining the global air fleet, while adhering to the requirements and expectations of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The sheer number of available aviation maintenance opportunities is worth mentioning. Boeing’s 2019 Pilot & Technician Outlook forecasts that 769,000 new aviation maintenance technicians will be needed worldwide by 2038. As aging mechanics begin to retire, and the demand for more mechanics increases, the need for new talent grows.

With NAA’s 14 or 21-month accelerated training programs, students can train with experienced instructors to prepare for current and future career opportunities.

NAA’s next career fair will take place at NAA’s New England campus at 130 Baker Ave. Ext. in Concord, MA on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. Industry leaders such as General Electric (GE) Aviation, Embraer, Gulfstream, and Piedmont will be in attendance. NAA-Tampa Bay will host their next career fair on Thursday, May 14, 2020.
