Britain’s East Midlands Airport has awarded Northrop Grumman [NOC] a contract to supply a software tool that forecasts departing passenger numbers, flow rates and waiting times so that the airport can better manage staffing needs.
The value of the award was not disclosed.
Northrop Grumman’s Europe-based airport systems group will supply the Passenger Flow software module of its Airport Realtime Collaboration suite. The system also provides real-time measurements of passenger flows, with alerts if the live measurements suggest a significant deviation from the forecast.
“We’re delighted to be working with Northrop Grumman to assist us in forecasting our passenger flow more accurately and plan accordingly over a longer period of time,” Nicola McCabe, head of customer services at East Midlands, said in a statement. “Getting the customer journey right is key to us, and we are hoping to use this system elsewhere in the terminal to enable us to process passengers as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
