The NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A) Dec. 10 signed a follow-on contract with France’s Thales Communications for the continued provision of a robust communications backbone for NATO’s ISAF mission.

The contract, valued at approximately $158 million, is a continuation of a previous effort, under which Thales provides advanced communications to the ISAF mission, with over 60 points of presence throughout the country.

The project is NATO’s largest ever outsourced communications project in support of operations.

The contract was signed by NC3A General Manager, Georges D’hollander, and Pascale Sourisse, Senior Vice President, Defence and Security C4I Systems of Thales France at the Agency’s Brussels headquarters.

“By partnering with Industry, we are able to deliver the vital support that our troops need,” said Georges D’hollander at the signature ceremony.

The NC3A is responsbile for delivering advanced communications and C4ISR capabilities in support of NATO decision-makers and operations. The lion’s share is procured from Industry.

Currently, the Agency has approximately $4 billion under contract, with multi-year contracts worth about $1 billion due for 2011-2012, including addressing new security challenges such as cyber and missile defense.
