NASA Launches Spacecraft To Check On Possible Weakening Of Protective Layer Shielding Solar System From Cosmic Rays

Spacecraft Will Remain In Orbit For 45-Day Systems Checkout, Then Head Off To Edge Of Solar System The Interstellar Boundary Explorer mission, or IBEX, successfully launched from the Kwajalein Atoll in the Pacific Ocean at 1:47 p.m. ET yesterday. The spacecraft rode into the solar system void on a Pegasus rocket that was carried aloft on an L-1011 aircraft, which served as the launch platform for the rocket.
