Merlin Power Systems launches Voodoo, which it calls an adaptable, affordable power supply system, at the U.K. Ministry of Defense’s Defense Vehicle Dynamics (DVD) 2013 event.

Voodoo is a solar panel mounting system that provides up to 60 percent more power than a fixed array, the company said in a statement. This is done by automatically moving the panels so that a perfect 90-degree angle is maintained with the sun.

Supplied with a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) regulator, Voodoo provides clean, carefully regulated power.

Multiple Voodoo units may be wired in parallel or series to achieve the required voltage/power output.

Voodoo also can recharge batteries at Forward Operating Bases, soldier battery packs, radios and charge vehicle systems so they don’t have to idle for long periods.

The system is suitable for all lead/acid (Gel/AGM), Lithium Ion & NiMH battery packs, the company said.

Billy Silhan, CEO of Merlin Power Systems USA, said: “Voodoo represents a huge leap forward in terms of the harvestable energy from new or existing solar arrays. This saves having to use generators to provide power and the associated fuel usage at Forward Operating Bases. Voodoo forms part of our holistic approach to providing reliable, efficient and safe power in theater.”
