Savi Technology has receive an order from the Marine Corps for 50 Portable Deployment Kits (PDKs) that will be used to locate, track and manage Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-tagged supplies anywhere and anytime in support of expeditionary support surges in Afghanistan. The Marine order brings the total number of kits purchased to nearly 1,3000 over the past several years by the Defense Department, National Guard, NATO and allied international defense forces, says Savi, which is a unit of Lockheed Martin [LMT]. The out-of-the-box PDKs use RFID, GPS and Iridium modems to communicate via satellite with DoD’s In-Transit Visibility network, enabling military logisticians to know where assets are located while they are transported to and from supply depots in the U.S. to the last tactical areas in the field of operations.
