Intellicheck Mobilisa [IDN] continues to develop a wireless buoy system for the Navy to push out perimeter security in ports. Last year the company received additional funds to expand the capabilities of its Wireless Over Water technology by installing sensors on buoys so that they can collect various data including things like environmental conditions, oil spills, radiation, and even potential subsurface and airborne threats. Intellicheck Mobilisa received a $4.5 million Navy contract in 2009 to develop its Wireless Over Water technology and received a follow-on $500,000 contract last year to integrate detection sensors with the buoy system that can be networked with the wireless communications system. The company and Navy are testing the sensors and communications relays on buoys deployed in Puget Sound and the Potomac River, Steve Williams, Intellicheck Mobilisa’s chief operating officer, tells TR2. The testing in the Potomac currently includes radiation detectors along with thermal imaging and low light cameras. A hit by the radiation sensors triggers shore and buoy cameras to identify the mark, Williams says. Research and development on the technology is nearing completion and the company is beginning to seek customers, he says.
