For the second straight year IBM [IBM] tops the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) list of prime contractors in terms of total dollar amount, garnering $560.3 million in prime contracts in FY ’10.

IBM’s contracts were mainly for information technology services work, with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) awarding nearly half of the company’s DHS contracts. The company’s total is $47.9 million more than last year.

Once again, Lockheed Martin [LMT] is second on the list, bringing in $422.7 million, $6.6 million less than a year ago. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) awarded nearly $250 million in prime contracts to the company, with the largest being for the Integrated Hiring Operations and Personnel Program.

DHS awarded $13.5 billion in prime contract awards in FY ’10, which is down $100 million from FY ’09 and $300 million from FY ’08. The FY ’10 amount includes $610.1 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding.

The Office of the Secretary at DHS, essentially DHS headquarters, awarded $3 billion in prime contracts, followed by CBP with $2.9 billion, the Coast Guard with $2.8 billion, TSA with $2 billion and Immigration and Custom Enforcement with $1.4 billion.

Integrated Coast Guard Systems, the joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman [NOC] that once had the lead systems integrator role for the Coast Guard’s Deepwater modernization project, and Accenture [ACN], the prime contractor for the US-VISIT program, both fell outside the top 10 contractors.
