General Dynamics [GD] expects to be among the firms responding to the Army’s sources sought notice for companies to provide a single channel, vehicular mounted radio running the Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW).
“Quite naturally, we will respond to the solicitation given our Joint Tactical Radio System contract and our leadership in devising the waveforms to enable them to operate in networked environments,” said Chris Brady, vice president of Assured Communications for General Dynamics C4 Systems.
Harris [HRS] is another firm that said it will be contending as a source for the production and delivery of approximately 5,000 Army radios, in a market survey released Feb. 17.
The intent of this acquisition is to procure non-developmental radio systems for warfighters as well as federal, state and local agencies, and authorized foreign militaries, the notice said. This is also the first procurement to come from the network integration evaluation (NIE).
The Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Handheld, Manpack, Small Form Fit (HMS) product family of small form factor radios are proven through the NIE.
Brady said, “You may recall that we offer a Sidewinder, which is simply an amplified vehicle mount for the one-channel Rifleman Radio. The Rifleman Radio is one of two HMS products in production and is the only single-channel radio operationally tested using the Soldier Radio Waveform.”
The acquisition is expected to be a Multiple Award Indefinite Delivery-Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ), Firm Fixed Price (FFP) for a five-year base award period. The Government intends to make one or more awards in August. The initial contract award is expected to be 350-1,700 radios.
