The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate, Chemical and Biological Division, has a research opportunity to assist the Bioforensics Program in their search for technologies to achieve the following goals: Development of an approach for generating a biased primer set that will preferentially amplify any of the NIAID Category A/B/C threat agents from within a complex background; Development of a production method for “ultraclean” reagents that are nucleic acid free for whole genome amplification; Development of a comprehensive model of sequencing error that can be standardized across next-generation sequencing platforms and captures all types of sequencing error; and, development of a probabilistic classifier for metagenomic sequence taxonomy assignment analysis that is applicable to both long and short fragments.
