FEMA Center Awards $9M for Support Services
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded AFC Development an $8.9 million contract to provide medical support services for its Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Ala. The center is a national training facility that prepares state and local emergency response personnel to respond to all hazards, including terrorist attacks using weapons of mass destruction. Some of the medical services include occupational health and medical surveillance, emergency response to medical and trauma emergencies, emergency stabilization and transport of students, contractors and federal staff due to chemical or biological agent exposure, and other medial emergencies.
Radiation Monitoring Devices Nabs $4M in DNDO Awards
The Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) has awarded Radiation Monitoring Devices two contracts worth a combined $4.4 million under the same Broad Agency Announcement for exploratory research in preventing nuclear and radiological terrorism. The largest award, worth $3.1 million, is for work entitled “Ceramic Scintillators for Transmission Radiography.” The second contract is for $1.3 million and is for work entitled “Bandgap Engineered Sensor for Active Interrogation of Cargo in Transit.” The work is aimed at reducing the cost of existing near-term nuclear/radiological threat detection systems. In June DNDO awarded a contract to RadiaBeam Technologies under the same BAA.
Elbit Systems to Deploy System to Monitor Water Pipeline
Elbit Systems [ESLT] says it will install its Integrated Perimeter Access Security System (I-PASS) along the pipeline of Israel’s national water company, Mekorot, for detecting and providing alerts against threats and sabotage. The I-PASS uses an optical deployed next to the pipeline and a technology that transforms the fiber into a sensor. Using Elbit’s Rotundus command and control system alters a analyzed and adapted to a customer’s needs and classified as either a threat or a false alarm. A threat will be posted on a digital map and an onsite camera will automatically be directed to the location.
