Smiths Detection Nabs $115K TSA Award for ETDs
Smiths Detection has won the latest installment from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for explosive threat detectors, a $115,500 award for the company’s Ionscan 500DT desktop systems. The systems are typically used as secondary screening measures at aviation security checkpoints and for hold baggage.
Kratos Receives $10M Contract in Mass Transportation Security Awards
Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. [KTOS] says its Public Safety & Security division has received a $7.3 million change order under an existing contract related to an electronic security system for a mass transportation authority in a major U.S. city. The company said it will provide additional equipment and services. The customer wasn’t identified. PSS Chief Ben Goodwin said his business is expecting significant growth this year. Separately, the PSS division received a $2.8 million change order and scope increase to another one of its existing mass transportation security contracts. Kratos says it will provide additional equipment and services for an electronic security system that is deployed in a major city and metropolitan area in the U.S. The order increases the company’s total program value with the customer to over $30 million. The customer was not disclosed. “These important contracts support some of the most challenging requirements in our industry for infrastructure protection,” says Goodwin. “A key element of our strategy to grow our business is to win new security system deployment engagements with large municipalities, mass transit authorities and other security conscious enterprises, exceed our customers’ expectations, and gain their confidence to provide us with additional opportunities to address their security and public safety requirements.”
L-3’s $99M Automated Installation Entry-3 Award is Protested
The Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense, Guardian Product Manager-Force Protection Systems has issued a stop work order for a $99 million contract it awarded L-3 Communications [LLL] in April for Increment 3 of the Automated Installation Entry (AIE) System. It’s unclear who filed the protest, which was submitted through the contracting agency and not the Government Accountability Office. The latest increment will provide hardware and software for up to 35 new installations. The AIE program provides timely and effective threat detection for installation commanders to assess and react in all threat environments. The program automates access control processes for authorized and registered personnel entering an installation. The latest generation AIE system will include biometric integration, extended sensor suites, enhanced automated processes and integration with the joint service architecture. The contract, if ultimately awarded to L-3, has a two-year base period and two one-year options.
Astrophysics to Supply X-Ray Systems to 11 Airports in Brazil
Astrophysics says it will supply 13 of its XIS-1818 X-Ray systems to 11 airports in Brazil for air cargo screening as the country prepares to host the FIFA World Cup this year and the 2016 Summer Olympics. The contract was awarded by Infraero, the Brazil’s airport operator. The contract was awarded in late 2013 and the systems were deployed in Dec. 2013. “This order further solidifies Astrophysics as a major player in the air cargo screening market,” says Francois Zayek, the company’s CEO. “Our ability to quickly, efficiently and effectively deploy our products and services, along with our affordable price points has contributed greatly to our increased market share.”
Infozen Receives Potential $4M Extension to Continue Supporting TSA Intel Office
Infozen has received a two-month task order worth up to $3.6 million to continue supporting the Transportation Security Administration’s Office of Intelligence Analysis Operating and Computing Environment while the agency finalizes plans for a recompete. A contract was awarded in July 2013 but was successfully protested, leading TSA to conduct a new competition for the work. The task order serves as a contract extension that can also allow for the transition from Infozen to a new vendor if necessary. The task order runs from April 1 to May 27. The Intelligence Office is responsible for a broad range of vetting programs designed to protect the U.S. transportation system against terrorism. The OCE platform requires hardware and commercial-off-the-shelf software designed to support various requirements.
