TSA Awards Smiths Detection $25M for ETDs

Smiths Detection has received a $24.8 million contract from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to provide the company’s IONSCAN 500DT explosive trace detectors (ETD) at airports throughout the U.S. Deliveries were slated to begin last month. Earlier his year TSA awarded Morpho Detection, Inc. (MDI), Smiths main competitor in the ETD space, a $13 million contract to service the agency’s Itemiser DX ETDs that it has previously purchased from MDI.

Implant Ships Its Largest Order Ever for ETDs

Implant Sciences [IMSC] has shipped an order of its Quantum Sniffer QS-H150 handheld explosive trace detectors (ETD) valued at about $6 million to India’s Ministry of Defence, marking the company’s largest order. Implant originally announced the contract in Jan. 2010 following a two year competition (HSR, Feb. 3, 2010). At the time the order was expected to be completely shipped by early that summer. “The successful shipment of our largest order to date highlights our manufacturing strength and our capacity to fulfil large orders,” says Brenda Baron, the company’s vice president of Manufacturing and Technical Services. “Our production team performed impeccably, achieving a 100 percent pass rate on all acceptance testing.” Separately, the company says it has sold a QS-H150 unit to a new distributor in the United Arab Emirates, a new product for that distributor which focuses on the security, safety and defense markets.

E3 Federal Solution Says TABSS Small Business Award Worth Up o $375M

E3 Federal Solutions, LLC, says it is one was awarded one of six indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract vehicles under the Department of Homeland Security’s Technical, Acquisition and Business Support Services (TABSS) Domain 1, small business track. The company says each Domain 1, small business track ID/IQ contract vehicle is valued at up to $375 million. DHS announced over the summer the companies that were selected to compete for work under potential five-year, $11 billion TABSS program (HSR, July 4). E3 is an acquisition and program management firm. E3 has 16 teaming partners to help it cover every TABSS Domain 1 support service area. Teammates include Arc Aspicio, ASI Government, Barquin International, Capstone Consulting Group, DLS Engineering Associates, DRC, Flatter & Associates, George Mason Univ., Glo Solutions, Inc., IntegrityOne Partners, New Mexico Tech (EMRTC), Robbins Gioia, Strategic Analysis, Inc., TASC, Tecolote Research, and Zia Engineering & Environmental.

Magal Receives $4M in Orders for Infrastructure Protection

Magal Security Systems [MAGS] has received orders worth $4.4 million to secure perimeters of prisons, police stations, nuclear and conventional power plants in various countries. The company says $2 million in orders are from Latin America for protecting prisons and police stations while the remaining orders are to secure nuclear power plants in the Far East and conventional power plants in Israel. “We see continued investment in the securing of critical sites in the Far East and Latin America, which balance the currently relatively weaker markets in Europe and the U.S.,” says Eitan Livneh, president and CEO of Magal S3.
