DHL Awards OSI Systems $3M Parcel Inspection Systems

OSI Systems [OSIS] says its Rapiscan Systems division has received a $3 million contract from

DHL International to provide multiple Orion 927DX package and parcel inspection systems for use in the air cargo environment. “We are honored to continue our long-standing partnership with DHL to work with them to support their hub expansion at one of the largest air cargo centers globally,” says Deepak Chopra, chairman and CEO of OSI. “All systems are expected to be installed in a fast-parcel screening environment fully utilizing the performance features of the RTT and Orion platforms.”

DHS S&T Adds $1M to IDSS Contract for Development of Cargo Skid Screening System

Integrated Defense & Security Solutions has received a $1.3 million contract modification from the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate to accelerate development of the new DETECT CS320 for screening full-size cargo skids. The computed-tomography based inspection system allows for full-size skids to be driven without breaking them down, which is a manually intensive process and slows commerce. The company says the resolution on the CS320 can see “dimples on a grapefruit.” IDSS says the contract modification will allow the company to leverage the capability of its DETECT 1000 checkpoint CT imaging system to deliver a high resolution full rotatable 3-D image to allow operators to quickly identify explosives and weapons hidden withing full-sized packaged cargo pallets or skids. The artificial intelligence detection algorithms will be enhanced to provide automated detection of potential threats and items of interest. “This new capability will be game-changing for aviation and potential customs inspection by increasing the number of skids that can be scanned each day without increasing manpower,” says Jeffrey Hamel, president and CEO of IDSS.

DroneShield Receives DoD Award for C-UAS C2 Development

Australia’s DroneShield says it has received funding from the U.S. Defense Department related to development of its command and control platform for counter unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS). Terms of contract and the specific DoD customer were not disclosed. DroneShield says it is a new customer. Work on the DroneShieldComplete C2 system will take several months. The company says that once the development work for DoD is complete, the customer is expected to make multiple purchases of DroneShield’s C-UAS equipment, which would run on the enhanced DroneShieldComplete C2 platform. The C2 system provides real time detection, tracking and reporting for DroneShield and third-party sensors. DroneShield CEO Oleg Vornik says the contract keeps the C2 platform “at the cutting edge of customer requirements and demonstrates the company’s “leadership not only as a product/sensor manufacturer, but also as an integrator of fixed site and mobile C-UAS systems.” He expects additional orders for the company’s solutions from the customer over time.
