The Trump transition has named commercial space proponent Charles Miller to the NASA agency landing team, according to the transition website.
Miller has had several leadership positions in pro-commercial space organizations, including companies, lobbying organizations, and consulting firms.
He is currently the president and owner of NexGen LLC, a space consultancy firm since 2012. Miller previously served as the co-creator and cofounder of NanoRacks LLC, a company that develops products and services for commercial utilization of space. According to his page on LinkedIn Miller created the company as a component of Constellation Services International, Inc. while he served there as CEO.
Miller also served as a senior advisor for commercial space at NASA from 2009-2012. According to his LinkedIn page he “Led NASA’s agency-wide activities to energize, enable and facilitate emerging commercial space capabilities, including suborbital RLVs [Reusable Launch System], cheap access to space, in-space transportation, satellite servicing, orbital debris removal, propellant depots, and commercial space communications.”
Last month Miller commented to Ars Technica on the Trump administration and space policy. “The biggest opportunity for transformation in space that a Trump administration is likely to be interested in is accelerating low cost access to space. This would include things like partnering with SpaceX, Blue Origin and ULA on reusable launch vehicles,” he said.
ULA, or United Launch Alliance, is a joint venture between Boeing [BA] and Lockheed Martin [LMT].
