Smiths Detection has received a $10.6 million contract from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to supply its HCV Mobile, high energy X-Ray inspection system for deployment across the country to inspect inbound and outbound shipping containers and trucks. The HCV mobile is ready to use in less than 30 minutes and can inspect 25 trucks an hour, penetrating steel up to 11 inches thick to provide high resolution images, Smiths says on its web site. The systems, which are built at a company facility in Tennessee, are used to inspect trucks, containers and other vehicles for contraband, weapons, explosives and drugs.
