Smiths Detection has received a $25.6 million order from the Canadian Air Transportation Security Authority to supply X-Ray systems to upgrade existing airport checkpoints. The systems include the HI SCAN 6040 aTiX and the company’s latest offering, the HI SCAN 7555 aTiX, which has a slightly larger tunnel size and can accommodate items such as strollers and larger carry-ons. The Advanced Technology 6040 aTiX X-Ray system is used by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration to screen carry-on bags at airport checkpoints. The aTiX systems capture multiple views of a bag in a single pass. Smiths says the aTiX systems can detect explosives automatically.
