New Border Security Cameras. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a presolicitation notice for its Remote Video Surveillance System (RVSS) Upgrade, which it plans to be a non-developmental program based on an open systems architecture. CBP says the RVSS Upgrade consists of two parallel activities, one an upgrade of selected RVSS sites with newer capability and two, an install of upgraded technology at new sites. CBP currently has RVSS systems, which consist of remotely-controlled, pole-mounted day and night cameras, deployed at certain areas along the southwest and northern borders. The cameras feed into a display at Border Patrol stations. The final solicitation is expected around Jan. 31. The agency plans to award one contract for a performance period of up to 10 years. The initial deployments will be in Arizona and, if options are exercised, more upgrades will take place in Arizona and Texas.
