DHS S&T Seeks Checked Baggage Capabilities Under Screening at Speed Effort
The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate issued a research call for checked baggage-related technologies under the Screening at Speed Broad Agency Announcement. The Checked Baggage Technology Development Program is considering development solutions to improve screening capabilities and improving training and certification processes for Transportation Security Officers. The research and development effort sees to develop two components of improved screening and alarm resolution and one component of an improved officer training and certification system. Under the first Technical Topic Area, Level 1.5 Screening, S&T seeks to augment current computed tomography-based explosive detection systems (EDS) screening through technology designed to work independently of or in conjunction with an EDS. Under the second Technical Topic Area, Non-Trae-Based Detection Approaches, the government seeks to design and develop bulk threat detection technology to screen items found in checked baggage for explosives. S&T is not interested in technologies based on trace detection or X-Ray-based methodologies for this topic area. The third topic, Officer Evaluation Tool, seeks to develop a universal certification and training platform for the Transportation Security Agency. Notice ID: 70RSAt23RB00000001. CWMD Office Seeks Info on Data Formats for Biodetection Systems
The Department of Homeland Security Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office issued a request for information on data formats for use in current biological detection systems designed for surveillance of the environment and or detection of aerosolized materials. The purpose of a data format standard is to provide a uniform format for data to be output from biological detection measurement instruments to enable interpretation of data without reference to manufacturer’s documentation. The CWMD Office plans to sponsor development of a data format standards for these types of detectors. The office wants to ensure that data can be used for modeling and simulation, that it can be transmitted in real-time to a receiving device such as a smartphone, tablet or similar device, that data are reusable, and can be combined with data from other sensors such as wind, pressure and humidity. 70RWMD23RFI00000002.
