The use of passive millimeter wave (PMMW) screening systems supplied by Brijot Imaging Systems has proven to be a benefit to security officers in Britain looking for contraband on passengers entering the country on short and long haul flights, the company says. “The incorporation of the PMMW technology, along with behavioral science, and intelligence, has significantly increased the ability of our officers to detect contraband,” says John Whyte, director of the United Kingdom Border Agency. “The mobile system, which is a self-contained screening unit that can be at operational readiness within minutes, has allowed us to move the checkpoints from one high risk arrival to the next very easily. Brijot listened and responded to our needs in the development of this mobile aspect and all the future integration opportunities.” The U.K. Border Agency awarded Brijot a contract early in 2008 following a series of trials in 2007 with the company’s GEN 2 detection system (TR2, Jan. 9, 2008). The original deployments used fixed systems but Brijot, responding to the Border Agency’s requirements, developed a mobile version of the system called MobileScan.
