*Boeing [BA] received a $1.2 million contract from the Air Force Material Command, Rome Research Center to provide services under the program name, Global Command and Control During a Cyber Attack: Providing Mission Assurance in the Face of Cyber Attacks. No program details were provided. Boeing CEO Jim McNerney tells a recent investor conference that cyber security is an area of focus for the company. “The defensive side of cyber security is a place where we are investing significantly to complement our offensive capability,” he says.

*U.S. House Representatives Peter King (R-N.Y.), Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) and Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) have introduced a bill (H.R. 2611) authorizing the restoration of $40 million in FY ’10 for the Securing the Cities program, a partnership between the Department of Homeland Security and state and local officials in the New York City region aimed at creating a layered defense against potential nuclear and radiological terrorism. The bill would also authorize another $10 million to sustain the program in future fiscal years. DHS zeroed out funding for Securing the Cities in its FY ’10 budget request saying there was adequate funding available in the FY ’08 and FY ’09 budgets to sustain the program for now. The proposed legislation would also expand the program funding to any other city interested in a similar radiological detection effort.
