OSI Systems [OSIS] says Mexico has extended the company’s turnkey screening services contract with the country until May 13, 2020. “We are actively engaged with Mexico’s government on a broader long-term program,” Deepak Chopra, the company’s chairman, president and CEO, said on OSI’s Jan. 28 second quarter earnings call. He added that the company hopes to have an agreement on a new and “broader program” by the end of May. OSI’s Rapiscan Systems division has provided its turnkey services solution to Mexico for the last eight years.

has awarded $373,000 to eight faculty members from minority serving institutions to continue their 2019 Summer Research Team research projects at five S&T Centers of Excellence. The institutions and projects include, Borders, Trade & Immigration Institute, a Regional Terrorism Index; the Center for Accelerated Operational Efficiency, Forecasting and Estimating the Impact of Severe Weather on Power Distribution Systems; Coastal Resilience Center, A Critical Analysis of the Risk Perceptions and Place Attachments of Coastal Communities at Risk for Sea Level Rise in North Carolina, and An Examination of Mental Health Effects of Hurricanes in Coastal North Carolina to Strengthen the Efforts of Resilience; Criminal Investigations and Network Analysis, a Content Analysis of Borderland Beat, and Guilty by Association: How Community Characteristics Impact Officer Engagement; and the Critical Infrastructure Resilience Institute, Using Microgrids to Improve the Grid Resilience and to Provide Emergency Service in the Aftermath of Extreme Events, and Strengthening the Resilience of our Nation’s Critical Infrastructure by Teaching Small Business to Build a Human Firewall.
