Halo X-ray Technologies Ltd (HXT) in Nottingham, United Kingdom, has received a $1.7 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate to develop and implement an automatic threat resolution system for use with X-Ray imaging of carry-on and checked bags. HXT will integrate their X-Ray diffraction system with the automated threat resolution technology into an existing dual-view, Advanced Technology X-Ray system currently used at airport checkpoints with the goal to build a combined system that can automatically resolve alarms and reduce the need for operator interventions.

The Transportation Security Administration

Innovation Task Force has an existing contract under its Future Lane Experience (FLEx) program. The name of the contractor and the award amount are redacted. Previously called Better Screening, Faster, under the FLEx effort, the ITF worked with agency stakeholders to develop a Capability Demonstration Plan for a field evaluation. During the demonstration phase, the agency’s general counsel noted that Transportation Security Equipment being used has privacy risks associated with the graphical user interface, therefore the ITF is requesting to modify the contract with a scope change for enhanced privacy software.

The Transportation Security Administration has awarded a six-month bridge contract to E3 Federal Solutions for program management help in support of the National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program, which supports explosives detection canine teams at 83 U.S. airports and 31 surface transportation systems. E3 is the incumbent contractor and recompete of the services was protested and resolved but the new award process is taking longer than expected.

The FBI has awarded IDEMIA a contract for OneLook 35T iris access control devices, and compact contactless fingerprint devices. The value of the award was redacted. The bureau’s Programs, Research and Standards Unit is acquiring the devices for a pilot of biometric devices for physical access control.
