American Science & Engineering [ASEI] has received a subpoena from the Inspector General of the General Services Administration (GSA) related to an investigation by the GSA and Defense Department of the company’s compliance with the terms and conditions of its contractual arrangements with the GSA. AS&E says in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it “will incur legal costs in connection with the investigation, and could incur additional costs, damages or penalties, depending on its outcome.” AS&E adds that it can’t predict the outcome of the investigation or the possible costs.

Implant Sciences [IMSC] has received an order from a French airport for 25 QS B-220 desktop explosive trade detection systems. The systems will be used to meet new European security regulations for screening passengers and checked bags and will be delivered by the end of June. The value of the award was not disclosed. “After conducting a long operational performance evaluation at the airport, the QS-B220’s performance was demonstrated to be far superior to the competition,” says Darryl Jones, Implant’s vice president of Global Sales and Marketing. “This, along with the fact that the QS-B220 is the only non-rad ETD to have both the original STAC (France’s ETD approval) as well as the ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference) qualification, drove the purchasing decision.”

Precise Biometrics has received a contract from the Defense Logistics Agency to provide Tactivo iPhone and iPad Common Access Card (CAC) readers in support of information operations. The value of the contract was not disclosed. DLA says that if it can’t provide the readers from Precise Biometrics, it will not have the required encryption services and will be non-compliant with certain policies and will be exposed to a potential disconnect from the DoD network by the Defense Information Systems Agency.

The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate has awarded Navigant Consulting a potential three-year contract to provide management and technical consulting services to improve the way the Homeland Security Advanced Research Projects Agency develops and executes its programs. The award, which includes a $600,947 base value, was made under the General Services Administration Mission oriented Business Integrated Services Schedule.
