Implant Sciences Corp. [IMSC] sold seven of its Quantum Sniffer QS-B220 desktop explosives and drugs trace detectors and QS-H150 handheld explosives trace detectors to a new corporate customer, a petroleum facility in the Arabian Gulf. “We continue to reach new markets and new customers as a result of our investment in growing our distribution channel,” says Darryl Jones, Implant’s vice president of Global Sales and Marketing. “This has significantly expanded the base on which we can build future revenue growth.” Separately the company says it has appointed Dr. Hacene Boudries as its Director of Technology. Boudries was most recently director, Research & Technology for Chemical/Biological Detection & Chemical Sensing at Morpho Detection, Inc., Advanced Technology Programs.

Smiths Detection has opened a new 130,000 square foot manufacturing plant for X-Ray baggage scanners in Malaysia to help expand its sales of screening systems in Southeast Asia, particularly for Aviation Security. “The Asian aviation market is forecast to grow strongly for the foreseeable future, complemented by good growth in our other market sectors,” says Mal Maginnis, president of Smiths Detection. Manufacturing in Malaysia will initially focus on systems to screen carry-on bags followed by larger systems that screen pallets and freight. The company’s aTiX automatic explosives detection X-Rau systems will be manufactured at the site beginning in late 2013.

The Department of Homeland Security plans to award XTec, Inc., a $648,191 contract for maintenance of the department’s Identity Management System Enrollment/Issuance Workstation (EIWS) interface to allow for the deployment of 75 EIWS, public key infrastructure certificates for 300,000 user identities, smart card minidriver software, and on line certificate statue protocol software. This work will enable DHS to complete the back end infrastructure for the use and issuance of Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 Personal Identity Verification cards and will enable logical access to protect DHS information technology assets from cyber breaches.
