The Federal Emergency Management Agency plans to increase the contract ceiling by $8 million to an existing contract with Accenture [ACN] for the Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning program. Implant Sciences [IMSC] says it has sold its Quantum Sniffer QS-B220 desktop explosives and drugs trace detector to a major European airport. “Radiation concerns weigh heavily in the decision processes of European customers,” says Darryl Jones, Implant’s global vice president of Sales and Marketing. “Because our Quantum Sniffers do not use a radioactive source, they become a natural choice for European security equipment purchasers.”

The Transportation Security Administration plans to purchase additional 2D boarding pass scanning systems (BPSS) from either DESKO Gmbh or IER to continue expanding PreCheck operations and to replace damaged units. The low cost portable units are to be used at airports with PreCheck lanes for marketing and validation data collection as well as live scanning of boarding passes. The existing stock of these BPSS systems was expected to be retired once more robust scanners were acquired but these have been delayed due to technical problems discovered in operational testing.
