Battelle Memorial Institute, operator of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for the Department of Energy, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) about commercial or government available equipment, or near-term commercial technologies that may be used for the detection of radioactive materials and or special nuclear materials at Defense Department installations. The RFI is part of an overall strategy to identify the next generation of radiological interdiction equipment for fielding as soon as FY ’09. Information obtained by the RFI will be included in a market survey that will be coupled with a test campaign to determine what system or systems should be recommended to the client for fielding. PNNL is interested in information on systems–spectroscopic and non-spectroscopic–that can be used for improved sensing of radioactive materials in commercial vehicles and personal vehicles. Of particular interest is the ability to discriminate medical isotopes from threat and non-threat materials. Sol. No. GUARDIAN. Respond by Sept. 12.
