The Army Research Development and Engineering Command has issued a Sources Sought notice for the Common Analytical Laboratory System (CALS) program, which is being developed by the Joint Product Manger, Consequence Management at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. CALS is based on a modular mobile laboratory concept that will consist of deployable modules that can be tailored to the specific needs of the specific consequence management laboratory units, service commanders, Joint Task Force-Civil Support and Joint Task Force Commander. The types of equipment that will be integrated into CALS includes CBRNE, information technology hardware and software, power generation, communication equipment, and more. CALS will provide a means to detect and quickly identify CBRNE materials in clinical specimens, environmental samples, and food samples. It will also analyze and provide field confirmatory and presumptive identification of threat agents, and genetically modified agents, to include low level biological warfare agents, chemical warfare agents, radiological and nuclear material, high explosive residue, toxic industrial compounds and toxic industrial materials.
