The NATO Eurofighter 2000 and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA) ordered Saab’s BOZ-101 EC electronic warfare self-protection and countermeasures system for the German Air Force, the company said April 11.
NETMA ordered 29 of these BOZ units, which consists of a wing-mounted pod. The pod includes a missile approach warning system in the aft section and a countermeasures dispensing system. Dispensing can occur forward, downwards and sideways in two adjustable directions. The dispenser is designed to counter modern infrared-guided threats, Saab said.
Saab highlighted the general BOZ system has previously been used on the Tornado jet for several years.
“The well renowned BOZ pod has been used on the Tornado for many years. This large follow-up order for the enhanced version confirms Saab´s capability to meet our customers’ need for state-of-the-art self-protection systems to improve their operational capabilities in hostile environments,” Anders Carp, head of Saab surveillance business area, said in a statement.
BOZ-101 EC production is planned for the company’s facilities in Järfälla, Sweden and Centurion, South Africa. Deliveries are expected during 2017-2020.
