Defense Secretary James Mattis announced several presidential nominations and assignments to the U.S. Navy this week.

Rear Adm. DeWolfe Miller III, director of the Air Warfare Division, N98, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, was appointed vice admiral and assigned as commander of Naval Air Forces as well as commander of Naval Air Force for the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Scott Conn replaces Miller at the Air Warfare Division. He previously served as commander of Carrier Strtike Group Four based out of Norfolk, Va.

Separately, Rear Adm. Frederick Roegge, submarine force commander for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, is appointed vice admiral for assignment as president of the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.

Roegge will be succeeded as the Pacific Fleet’s submarine commander by Rear Adm. (lower half) Darly Caudle, who was also selected for promotion to rear admiral. Caudle currently serves as director for plans and operations at U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/the Sixth Fleet, deputy commander of the Sixth Fleet, commander for submarines at Allied Naval Forces South, and commander of Submarine Group Eight in Naples, Italy.
