Robert Joyce, the White House Cybersecurity Coordinator, reiterated previous statements on the administration’s cyber security priorities on April 24 and also said the long-expected cyber security executive order was coming out soon with the right timing.

Speaking for the first time since joining the administration, Joyce said on April 24 at the Georgetown International Conference on Cyber Engagement, the Trump administration’s cyber priorities will be on innovation in government networks, using shared cyber security services within the government to protect critical infrastructure, and building international cyber norms.

He noted that his office is working with the new Office of American Innovation, led by the President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, to reform government information technology (IT). The two groups will work together in this area as the administration attempts to modernize federal IT, retire outdated systems, move towards shared services, and bring innovation from industry in the way the government provides services.

Joyce also said the administration’s priorities are reflected in the work going in to the executive order. “I will hesitate to comment on the timing. It is close and nearby.”

He clarified that the administration wants to make sure the order “emerges with the time and attention it needs on an important topic and at the same time in sequence with other things that the administration will put out” so it does not distract from other administration messages.
