India used its Akash interceptor to take out a flying target last week, according to news media reports.

The news comes as India also is working to develop a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile able to carry a nuclear weapon almost 4,000 miles.

In the test last week, a surface-to-air Akash missile was launched from Chandipur-on-Sea to hit a flying target.

Rival nation Pakistan also is working to enhance its missile capabilities.
