Goodrich Corp. [GR] this week said that it has acquired two divisions of Recon/Optical, Inc. (ROI) to complement its current portfolio of aircraft- based imaging sensors.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. ROI is owned by electronics component manufacturer Bourns Inc. of California. The portion of ROI being acquired by Goodrich has 170 people and had sales last year of $27 million.

Goodrich said the acquisition of Recon/Optical’s Chicago Aerial Industries and Pacific Optical Division assets will give it new products and capabilities in low-to-medium altitude airborne reconnaissance cameras and optical products for the homeland security and military markets. Those products will complement Goodrich’s high altitude sensors, the DB-110 and SYERS cameras. The DB-110 is flown on Royal Air Force Tornado aircraft and some foreign F-16 fighters while the SYERS is found on the United States Air Force’s U-2 spy planes.

“This acquisition provides Goodrich with additional capabilities in persistent imaging, one of the key components our armed forces need to execute today’s missions,” Curtis Reusser, segment president of Electronic Systems at Goodrich, said in a statement.

Bourns will retain the Common Remotely Operated Weapons Station, which mounts on vehicles such as the Humvee and Armored Security Vehicle, and the Raven R-200 remote controlled weapons station.

Bourns said it did not use a financial adviser on the transaction.
