Leonardo Helicopters (formerly AugustaWestland/Finmeccanica) awarded General Dynamics [GD] a contract to provide mission system equipment for Brazil’s Super Lynx helicopter upgrade program, GD said July 13.
The helicopter’s cockpit will be integrated with GD’s Tactical Processing System and Secure Data Recorder to provide increased performance and capability, the company said at the Farnborough International Airshow.
The Tactical Processing Systems integrates a range of sensor and application information for display in the cockpit. This includes graphics generation for up to five independent displays, video management and compression, two independent digital maps, encrypted data storage, and tactical datalink capability.
The GD system has previously been incorporated into the cockpit display system of U.K. and export variants of the Leonardo Helicopters AW159 Lynx Wildcat helicopter
The Secure Data Recorder provides a security solution allowing users to record and store data for later use, enables transfer of the data on and off all types of platforms using encrypted memory cartridges, and is qualified for manned and unmanned platforms that operate in air, land, and maritime environments, GD said.
Data typically transferred using this method includes uploading of mission and digital map data, extraction of recorded data like radar and electro-optical sensors, voice and data communications, and tactical mission data.
This announcement came a day after Leonardo Helicopters awarded GD a contract concerning U.K. Royal Navy Wildcat helicopters systems.
“This contract is further testament to General Dynamics’ long-term, collaborative working relationship with Leonardo Helicopters,” Steve Rowbotham, vice president of General Dynamics Mission Systems-UK subsidiary, said in a statement.
