AM General said last week that it has hired Charles Hall, a former executive with General Dynamics [GD], to become its new president and CEO, succeeding James Armor, who will continue as its chairman.

Hall retired last May 1 after five years as the executive vice president and group executive of GD’s Combat Systems Group, one of four reporting segments at GD (Defense Daily, March 8). Before that, he led GD’s Land Systems subsidiary within Combat Systems. He joined GD in 1973.

“With his 37 years of defense industry experience spanning production, manufacturing and management positions, Charlie is the ideal choice to move into this senior leadership role with AM General,” Armour said in a statement.

AM General’s flagship product is the High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle, better known as the Humvee, the premier light tactical utility vehicle for the Army. AM General has produced 200,000 Humvees for the United States military and international forces. AM General and GD are teaming on a competition to replace the Humvee with the Joint Light Tactical Vehicile.

AM General also produces the HUMMER H2 passenger trucks for General Motors [GM] and makes diesel engines through its General Engine Products facility for newer Humvees, the original HUMMER H1 and marine craft.
