Egypt wants to buy more than $560 million in United Technologies [UTX] General Electric [GE] UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, Raytheon‘s [RTN] TOW 2A anti-armor guided missiles and General Dynamics [GD] 120mm high explosive with tracer (HE-T) cartridges.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress Sept. 9 of the potential $176 million sale of four Black Hawks with eight T-700-GE-701 engines, one spare engine, four AN/APR39A(V)2 radar signal detecting sets, four AN/ALQ-144A(V)1 infrared countermeasure sets, four AN/AAR-57 common missile warning systems, four AN/AVR-2A laser warning sets, and four improved hover infrared suppression systems. The sale also would include SAFIRE/II/HD forward looking infrared, M130 flare and chaff dispensers and AN/ALE- 47 countermeasures dispenser systems and associated equipment and services.
The helicopters will support a newly established military Search and Rescue Operations Center and to assist with border security missions. The helicopters will be used to perform search and rescue, surveillance, observation and to modernize Egypt’s existing aircraft inventory.
Separately, DSCA said Egypt wants to spend $69 million on 15,500 120mm HE-T cartridges, 200 dummy 120mm HE-T cartridges and 100 cutaway 120mm HE-T, and associated logistics.
Another possible sale would be $319 million for 6,900 TOW 2A anti-armor guided missiles, plus 28 fly-to-buy missiles, and associated logistics and technical support.
