OSI Systems Announces $15M Contract

OSI Systems [OSIS] says its Rapiscan Systems division has received a $15 million contract to provide multiple security inspection systems and follow-on service and technical support. The contract includes OmniView Gantry cargo inspection systems that use a combination of high-energy transmission and Z Backscatter technology, Z Portal passenger vehicle screening systems, and a Sentry Portal cargo inspection system. The systems were all developed by American Science and Engineering, which OSI acquired last year.

Oman Selects Safran for Multi-Biometric Platform

Safran Identity & Security says it has been selected by the Sultanate of Oman to consolidate the Sultanate’s multiple identification systems within a single multi-biometric platform. The company says its Automated Biometric Information System platform will enable the various existing solutions to communicate with each other and manage all biometric databases within a unified system. The ABIS system will provide enrollment, identification and verification for civil identity, public security, border control and criminal identification. Safran previously provided local authorities in Oman with the AFIS fingerprint identification system and an identification system for expatriate workers through iris recognition. The award value wasn’t disclosed. Safran Identity is part of the Safran Group.

DHS S&T Awards Teracore $2M to Continue Supporting First Responder Group

Teracore has received a five-month, $2.1 million contract extension from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) branch to continue to provide program support activities to the First Responder Group while a new competitive task order is put in place. The extension brings the value of Teracore’s current task order to $12.1 million. The work is being performed under the EAGLE II contract. Teracore provides assistance to the First Responder Group to support mission critical strategic program and technical management, program planning and oversight, financial management, and technical website administration functions across the broad scope of first responder activities.

Leonardo Gets $11M Contract from Shipbuilder for Drive Systems on OPC

Leonardo DRS says it has been awarded a $10.7 million contract from Eastern Shipbuilding to provide hybrid electric drive systems for the Coast Guard’s new fleet of medium-endurance Offshore Patrol Cutters (OPC). The contract covers the first nine OPCs, which Eastern Shipbuilding is in the process of completing the design work in preparation for constructing the first vessel. Under the contract, Leonardo DRS says it will provide its permanent magnet motor-based Auxiliary Propulsion System, that allow the ship to operate more efficiently at slower speeds, and also increase mission duration capability, reduces emissions, and provides emergency take-home capability in case the main propulsion diesel engines fail. Leonardo DRS is a U.S.-based division of Italy’s Leonardo.
