Army Seeks Quick Reaction Capability Support for JIDA

The Army has issued a Request for Information seeking quick reaction capability support to the Joint Improvised-Threat Agency (JIDA) Improvised Threats Initiatives. JIDA, formerly JIEDDO, has three main lines of operations that historically have been focused on the improvised explosive device (IED) threat. However, recent changes to JIDA’s mission drive the organization to broaden its focus beyond the IED to the new focus of improvised threats. “Improvised threats are those threats which our adversaries use to counter our technical overmatch,” the Army says. “They are typically an adaptation of cheaply available technologies or Tactics, Techniques and Procedures which are easily transformed and made effective by the use of available and expendable manpower to make them lethal.” Execution authority is expected in small size, weight and power (SWaP) synthetic aperture radars, small SWaP hyperspectral near visible infrared, shortwave infrared, and long wave infrared sensors, integration of sensors on small unmanned aerial systems, and air or ground-based acoustics, seismic and radar technologies. With the RFI the Army hopes to gather information that will assist in the determination of a suitable acquisition solution for a Quick Reaction Capability to begin initiative execution within the JIDA drive 60 day requirement.
