Customs and Border Protection has awarded contracts to improve land ports of entry at five locations in the U.S. using funds from the Recovery Act. The awards were made to the following companies: ReArch Company, LLC, $4.9 million for design and build work at the Morses Line, Vt., port of entry; Willow Creek Construction, $5.8 million for the Del Bonita, Mont., port of entry; Con Tech Building Systems, $7.5 million for the Cannons Corners, N.Y., port of entry; Randolph Construction Services, Inc., $11 million for the Boundary, Wash., port of entry; and P&S Construction, Inc., $9.5 million for the Entry-Hamlin, Me., port of entry.

The Transportation Security Administration says that as of April 16 it has certified 626 facilities in 224 cities in the U.S. under the Certified Cargo Screening Program. The entities include 403 Indirect Air Carriers, 171 shippers, and 52 Independent Cargo Screening Facilities.

Pitney Bowes, Inc., [PBI] Government Solutions business has received a $430,000 contract from the Army to create a Best Practices Guide for Mail Screening and Handling to outline the most efficient and effective processes and procedures to handle and screen mail entering government facilities for biological, chemical, radiological, and explosive threats. The objective of the research and the resulting guide will be to significantly reduce the risk of mail-borne threats to government personnel and facilities.
