A newly formed small company in Arizona has acquired a small business from Britain’s BAE Systems that it had purchased in 2009 to complement its offerings in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

Sensintel, Inc., acquired the Tucson-based company that makes small UAS such as the SILVER FOX system used by the Marine Corps and the MANTA and COYOTE systems. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Sensintel has 30 employees.
BAE acquired the business, known originally as Advanced Ceramics Research, Inc., in 2009 for $14.7 million (Defense Daily, March 13 and June 9, 2009). BAE acquired the unit to complement its work on larger UAS systems in Britain.
BAE said the small business unit doesn’t fit with its core focus areas in the United States. A company spokesman also told Defense Daily that BAE wasn’t able to generate the expected synergies from combining the small UAS maker with its larger UAS efforts in Britain.
The spokesman also said that the sale has no impact on its UAS operations in Britain.
Sensintel is led by its owner Matthew Pobloske, who was director of Business Development while the unit was owned by BAE.
