Sweden requested four Patriot Confoguration-3+ Modernized Fire Units including four AN/MPQ-65 radar sets, four AN/MSQ-132 engagement control stations, nine antenna mast groups, 12 M903 launching stations, 100 Patriot MIM-104E Guidance Enhanced Missile-TBM (GEM-T) missiles, 200 Patriot Advanced Capabilty-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles, four Electrical Power Plants (EPP) III, and associated equipment, material and logistics support.

Primary contracts for this FMS will be Raytheon [RTN] and Lockheed Martin [LMT].

DSCA said Sweden will use the Patriot system for missile defense of its territorial integrity and promote regional stability.

It also noted the sale would increase the defensive capabilities of Sweden’s military and support interoperability with U.S. and NATO problems. Sweden is not a member of NATO but takes part in NATO military exercises and in recent years has considered possibly joining the alliance.

The agency characterized Sweden as “a strategic partner which has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress within the Baltic Sea region and across Europe.”

Implementation of this sale would require about 24 U.S. government and 32 contractor representatives to travel to Sweden for extended periods for equipment de-processing/fielding, system checkout, training, and technical and logistics support.
