Raytheon [RTN] has received U.S. Department of Defense approval to begin selling its new, multi-role Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) to foreign customers, the company said Jan. 10.

Raytheon developed the SM-6 for the U.S. Navy and has delivered more than 300 missiles so far. Built in Huntsville, Ala., the SM-6 can provide “extended-range protection” against fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft and cruise missiles and can shoot down ballistic missiles in their terminal phase of flight, according to the company.

Raytheon said in a statement that the DoD approval applies to “several” countries, which it did not name.
