Israel’s Rafael said Tuesday it has signed an agreement with Germany to integrate its Trophy Active Protection System (APS) on the Bundeswehr’s Leopard 2 Main Battle Tanks.
Deliveries for an initial group of the Trophy APS anti-tank weapon capability will take place over the next several years, with German defense manufacturer
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) contracted to handle integration on the tanks.
“Germany is joining an exclusive group of advanced tier-1 nations who have chosen Trophy APS to protect their troops and assets from the ever-increasing threat of anti-armor warfare. We are thankful to the German government for joining other user nations and for their confidence in our system and our experience, and we look forward to working with KMW on the integration and installation of Trophy on the Leopard 2 and on future platforms.” Ran Gozali, head of Rafael’s land and naval division, said in a statement.
Rafael said it expects Germany to procure additional Trophy systems in the years to come as it aims to equip most of its Leopard 2 fleet with the anti-tank weapon countermeasure system.
Last month, Rafael and Leonardo DRS, its partner for American integration efforts, announced it had completed deliveries of Trophy APS for the U.S. Army’s Abrams tanks (Defense Daily, Jan. 6).
A Leonard DRS spokesperson told Defense Daily the Army has received Trophy APS quantities sufficient to outfit four brigades of tanks.
Trophy APS is also currently integrated on Israel’s Merkava tanks and Namer armored personnel carriers.
