Coast Guard Awards Huntington Ingalls Contract for Sixth NSC

The Coast Guard has awarded Huntington Ingalls Industries [HII] a $487.1 million contract for construction of the sixth National Security Cutter (NSC), which will be built at the company’s shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss. The 418-foot vessel is slated to be delivered in FY ’17. The Coast Guard currently has three NSCs in service and two more under construction with HII. The contract for NSC 5 was awarded in Sept. 2011 and is 16 percent complete. The service plans on having a fleet of eight NSCs to replace 12 aging Hamilton-class high-endurance cutters. The Coast Guard is seeking funding for the seventh NSC in its FY ’14 budget request.

TSA Awards IBM Potential $53M to Extend Some OASIS Task Orders

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) plans to award up to $53.4 million to IBM [IBM] to extend 44 task orders by up to seven months under the Operational Application Support and Information Services (OASIS) Blanket Purchase Agreement. DHS is in the process of transitioning operational knowledge from IBM to OASIS II vendors, which include IBM, BAE Systems, and Soft Tech Consulting, Inc. The task order extensions provide continuous, uninterrupted application development support services for multiple mission critical applications and programs within TSA, including Secure Flight, eTAS, EPMP, AST and Consolidated Screening Gateway. Prior to the latest task orders, $431.7 million in task orders had been awarded under OASIS, which was awarded under the Department of Homeland Security EAGLE indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract.

Elbit Systems so Supply E-O Systems to Embraer for Brazil Border Project

Israel’s Elbit Systems [ESLT] says its Brazilian subsidiary has received a contract from Brazil’s Embraer to supply electro-optic systems as part of the Sisfron border security program. The value of the award was not disclosed although Elbit says it is not material. The company says the initial contract is part of a pilot program and that deliveries of the electro-optic systems will begin in 2014. Embraer won the $404 million phase one Sisfron contract with Brazil’s Army last fall. Elbit also says that as part of the program it will make investments in Brazil in terms of assets, infrastructure and know-how in optronics. “We see great importance in this award, marking a breakthrough for our electro-optic activities in Brazil, which is a significant market for Elbit Systems,” says Bezhalele Machlis, president and CEO of Elbit Systems. Embraer said last fall that the initial phase of Sisfron will include the monitoring of about 650 kilometers of land border along the western side of the country with Paraguay and Bolivia. Ultimately, Brazil plans to use Sisfron to protect 16,886 kilometers of the country’s land borders.

SAIC Selects NICE Security Management System for Denver Airport

Israel’s NICE Systems [NICE] has been selected by Science Applications International Corp. [SAIC] to supply its Situator security management software platform to be the backbone of Denver International Airport’s Integrated Airport Management system. The new system will help the airport to more effectively and efficiently respond to, mitigate, resolve and recover from security incidents, emergencies and other events. SAIC is the system integrator for the project, with the first phase expected to be completed in late 2013. Situator will be used to integrate video surveillance, GIS mapping software, and access control to improve situational awareness. Situator’s automated, adaptive response plans will enhance the handling of security-related events.

Cross Match Provides Palm Scanners for Japanese Law Enforcement

Cross Match Technologies has delivered a customer version of its L SCAN 500P palm scanner to Japan’s NEC for deployment by the Japanese national law enforcement agency. The deployment of the 59 third-generation L SCAN 500P scanners builds on previous deployments of earlier generations of the device with NEC and the national law enforcement agency dating back to the mid-1990s. Customer features of the scanner include modified resolution to 508 dpi, a modified print capture area, and ergonomic enhancements. The delivery of the 59 scanners is the initial procurement.

Charleston Ports Group Selects Mariner’s CommandBridge Security Platform

The Maritime Association of South Carolina (MASC) has selected The Marine Group’s CommandBridge security management platform for its Maritime Command and Control and Situational Awareness project. MASC said it selected CommandBridge over a number of other products. “CommandBridge situational awareness has evolved to deliver real-time dynamic mobile sensor tracking, processing and on-the-fly geo-fencing of land, air and sea mobile assets for maritime and coastal domain awareness needs through the U.S.,” says Erin Phelps, Mariner’s senior vice president for Business Development. “We are very excited to include MASC as our client.”
