Smiths Detection to Supply Spanish Airport with Baggage Scanners
Smiths Detection says it has won a contract to supply 10 Spanish airports, including Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga, with more than 120 high-speed HI-SCAN 10080 EDX-2is X-Ray scanners to inspect hold baggage for explosives and other threats. The X-Ray scanners can screen up to 1,800 bags per hour and the dual view system enables operators to view objects from multiple angles for faster and more accurate inspections. Smiths says the multi-million dollar contract is with Spanish airport operator AENA and was done through the company’s representative in Spain, Tecosa. Deployment of the scanners ill allow the airports to meet the Standard 2 requirements of recent European Union legislation on security screening. The scanners will be integrated into existing conveyor systems.
