The Transportation Security Administration during the past year has dramatically picked up the pace of deploying new technology at airport security checkpoints, including Advanced Technology X-Ray systems, personnel imagers, bottled liquid scanners and devices to scan casts and prosthetics.

In addition, the agency also continues to manage a series of pilot programs aimed at bolstering the screening of airport employees and air cargo while continuing to examine multiple personnel imaging systems. TSA is also opening a new integration facility where it will be able to test out new technologies, software and systems in an operational format without always having to disrupt airport operations.

  • Now that the AT X-Ray machines are being rolled out in large numbers, what are TSA’s plans for advancing the capabilities of these systems?
  • Despite buying 30 of the millimeter wave personnel imagers, TSA continues to pilot test backscatter technology from two vendors. What is the agency thinking and has it decided on a multi-technology or multi-vendor approach for these imaging systems?
  • What are TSA’s plans for using Explosives Detection Systems already modified for checkpoint screening?
  • What are some of the long-term goals and plans of TSA and the Department of Homeland Security for boosting airport security? Currently the multiple security layers throughout an airport are stove piped. Are there plans or programs to begin fusing sensors and data to further improve security and increase passenger throughput?
  • Companies are developing better EDS for checked baggage screening that can increase throughput and possibly lower false alarms. What is TSA looking to do in the near future regarding EDS machines?
  • What is the DHS Science and Technology Directorate doing, and planning, to help TSA meet some of its security challenges?

These and other questions will be addressed during this interactive webinar on airport and aviation security on October 20th. Register today!

What equipment do I need?

For the audio connection:

  • A computer with RealPlayer or Windows Media Player installed. When you log into the Virtual Seminar, your computer will be taken through a brief configuration check and will let you know if you're missing any software.
  • If you do not have RealPlayer or Windows, a touch-tone telephone will work also. It works best to use a speakerphone so that others can listen too.

For the Internet connection:

  • PC: 166Mhz Pentium-based PC or better
  • Operating system: Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP
