GCR Introduces Biometric Security Credentialing Solution

GCR Inc., has introduced AirportIQ Secure Credentials, a biometric security and continuous credentialing solution for the aviation and airport industry. AirportIQ includes core biometric and credentialing functionality provided by ImageWare Systems

[IWSY] and the company’s own business automation and other components. The system manages the entry and maintenance of identity information, both biometric and biographies, prints badges, interfaces with access control systems, maintains historical information, and provides easy deployment to off-site authorized signers. The system also does automatic background check interfacing with federal agencies, card issuance and management, regulatory compliance, security and airfield enforcement, and perimeter post access validation.

DHS Updates Biodetection Technologies Product Listing

An updated listing of commercially available biological detection devices and products has been published the Departments of Homeland Security and Energy to help first responders when purchasing equipment and supplies needed to quickly assess biological threats. The Biodetection Technologies for First Responders: 2014, is free and includes technology summaries, web links, equipment specifications, pricing, and annotated references from peer-reviewed publications for about 30 detection technologies and 25 sampling products from nearly two dozen companies.  The listing, which was compiled by the DHS Science and Technology Directorate and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, can be found here: http://biodetectionresource.pnnl.gov/.

DHS Certifies Eid Passport’s RAPIDGate under SAFETY Act

Eid Passport says its RAPIDGate secure gate-access-based system has been certified by the Department of Homeland Security under the SAFETY Act, granting the company limited liability protections. The certification also covers the company’s RAPID-RCx and RAPID IAC programs. “We are pleased to bring the benefits of the SAFETY Act to our customers and partners as we help highly secure facilities to increase security and streamline access for authorized personnel,” says Steve Larson, the company’s chairman and CEO.

Navy Recertifies Eid Passport as Commercial Credentialing Source

Eid Passport says that the Navy has recertified it as a commercial credentialing source under the Navy Commercial Access Control System (NCACS). The designation means the company and its RAPIDGate program meet the NCACS program’s strict security and access control rules for credentialing vendors, suppliers, service providers and other non-military personnel who seek access to Navy facilities to conduct official business.” The NCACS program is administered by the Commander, Navy Installations Command, Antiterrorism Program Management Office. Eid Passport’s RAPIDGate program provides secure gate-access-based facilities with an identity management solution.

Morpho Joins Fast IDentity Online Alliance

Safran Group’s Morpho says it has joined the Fast Identity Online (FIDO) Alliance, a year-old organization addressing the lack of interoperability among strong identification technologies and fix problems users face with creating and remember multiple usernames and passwords. FIDO members commit to sharing technology and collaborating on the development of open specifications that enable FIDO-compliance authentication methods to be interoperable, more secure, private and easy to use. Morpho says that as a member of the alliance it will offer FIDO-compliant products enabling banks, online service providers and mobile network operators to provide more convenient and secure access to online services.

HID Global Part of Team for Somalia’s New Secure National ID and E-Passport

HID Global says it is part of an international team that will supply Somalia with a new national ID card and electronic-passport. HID, which is part of Sweden’s Assa Abloy, will manufacture and provide secure chip-enabled E-Passport covers and a custom national ID card with multiple security features. The ID documents and their supporting solutions were designed and implemented by a team that consists of Oman’s Al Madina Group, a security printer and systems integrator, and Ebtikart Smart System, a solution provider with a presence in Somalia. The E-Passport is compliant with International Civil Aviation Organization standards.

Sandia Provides TSA with Research on TSO Behavior at Checkpoints

Sandia National Laboratories says it has completed a research study assessing whether Transportation Security Officers experience cognitive impacts when switching from PreCheck lanes to standard lanes and vice versa while working at aviation security checkpoints. Specific details from the study were not disclosed but Sandia researcher Ann Speed, a cognitive psychologist, says that the results are likely to lead to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) introducing some changes across the country to improve the performance of TSOs. The study was sponsored by TSA with funding provided by the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology branch. The
